MY BEST FRIEND (Part 1 of 2)

May 13, 2002 - © William G. Wigginton, Jr.

One night, I got out the C-rats and Sarge and I had our supper. In each box of C-rats was a small box with four cigarettes in it and a pack of OD green matches. We were not supposed to smoke, but no one cared if we didn't get caught. Anyway, the whole matchbook went up in my hands, and caused second-degree burns on both hands, cause I had the matchbook and match curled and covered by both hands. So, I had to go to the hospital, and get treated, after dropping off Sarge at the Kennels. I spent two weeks without a dog, and Sarge was given to another handler, and I had to wait till the next dog vacancy opened up.
