BUSTED! A Drug Dog's Sense of Humor

"Yeah," she sort of chuckled nervously.

"Why is he doing that? There's NOT supposed to be anything in my van!"

I don't know if she was embarrassed by the fact that maybe her dog could be wrong or by the fact that maybe she had "caught" a friend. She tried to brush it off by muttering something about previous owners and residue, but I wasn't satisfied. I'd had that van for awhile and there just couldn't be anything in it.

Sharon was ready to stop there but I swallowed my embarrassment, "If there's something in there, I want to know. Let's open the door and let him show us what he thinks he's found."

Chance hopped inside and immediately his nose was drawn like a magnet to the pouch on the backside of the driver's seat. He wiggled ecstatically when I reached in to retrieve his find. My own dog's tennis ball!

The big goof! He had known all along what he was doing! As our embarrassment washed away, Sharon and I laughed and laughed. Chance grinned, apparently pleased with himself.

It's now been several years and I still look back on that moment and laugh. I'm actually grateful to that big yellow dog for this funny memory. So, Chance, wherever you are, I forgive you. And I wish you many happy tennis balls in your future!
