Katrina Animals - Our Red Hot Rageby speaking out for something better in our America. We must cry out! We must harness our rage and let our senators and representatives know that we will not settle for anything less than including animals in their future disaster response plans. A petition has been established online, with the following description: Pet Safe is a Red Cross program in Nassau County, NY that is a cooperative effort of local groups and government working together to assist people and their pets during times of disasters. We're asking the American Red Cross to adopt it as a national program. Ask Red Cross to adopt a national program to keep pets safe during disasters. Supporters may sign at the following link: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeactio... Surely our collective voice will be heard and this disgrace will not ever happen again.
Update: It's encouraging to hear that evacuees ahead of Hurricane Rita, headed for the Texas coast, are being allowed to take pets on buses! Yes! Though a dear price was paid, perhaps we have learned something from Katrina. Animal Preparation Check List http://www.helpinganimals.com/f-disaster...
