Sometimes it is the simplest things that are good for us. But many times some things seem so simple that we don't believe them. Exercise is one of those things.

Did you know that you can exercise half an hour four times a week and reduce your risk for all types of conditions?

From reducing stress, to reducing the risk of cancer the research shows that exercise is very beneficial to us.

But it seems far too simple to be true. Somehow it is much easier to believe that a revolutionary new system allows a minituare hospital for DNA to be placed within your body, with tiny cells capturing damaged genes, repairing them and returning them to their place. (As far as I know this is not true.)

Today, I want to present you with some of the research into exercise that might just convince you that this small change in lifestyle can work wonders for your health.

ELEVEN REASONS TO EXERCISE

1. The American Heart Association lists the benefits of exercise as being: reduced risk of heart disease, lower cholesterol levels, prevention of bone loss, increased energy levels, decreased stress and tension, assistance with sleep, improved self-image, increased muscle strength and delayment and prevention of chronic illnesses. As you can see, not a small list of benefits.

2. Other studies report that exercises prevents diseases including arthritis, cancer and heart disease.

3. A report into health promotion and aging also cited various benefits of exercise including reduced incidence of heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, colon cancer, depression, anxiety and osteoporotic fractures.

4. A study of 8000 people showed that those who exercised at a standard level had one-third less heart disease.

5. A study reported in the British Medical Journal looked at various studies relating exercise to cancer. They found over 200 studies showing that exercise decreased the risk of cancer for various types of cancers. The findings included that: physically active men and women experience half as much bowel cancer as inactive men and women, physical activity reduces breast cancer rates by up to 30 percent, studies of prostate cancer suggest exercise can prevent this cancer and that physical activity may also be important in the treatment and rehabilitation of cancer patients, reducing the likelihood of recurrence and enhancing the survival rate.

6. Some studies report that exercise can be an effective treatment for depression. Others focus on how exercise makes people feel, citing reduced stress and higher self-esteem as results.
