Gifts for a pregnant Valentine‘Firsts’ are important to new and expecting mothers. A first Christmas with her new baby ranks right up there with her first kiss and your wedding as a milestone to be cherished forever. Similarly, even seemingly innocuous holidays such as Valentine’s Day may take on special importance to a new or expecting mother. Perhaps you should consider doing something special for your bride this year. With all those hormones in a stew, it’s a good bet she’ll be especially sensitive to your effort (or lack of effort) to be romantic. A few suggestions: If you have other children, or a newborn who is old enough to be left for a time with a sitter, consider hiring a baby-sitter for the evening and planning a romantic dinner for two. Roses, champagne (she may decline if she’s still breast-feeding) and/or fine chocolates are optional, but are always recommended. And diamonds, of course, are still a girl’s best friend. Every relationship needs nurturing. Chances are you and your wife have been focusing heavily on your infant or expected child. But remember: your own relationship was here first and it’s what will remain long after junior leaves the nest. Tend it now and you’ll always have each other. Ignore it at your peril. Getting back to diamonds; it’s certainly not necessary to invest in a quality chunk of carbon atoms, but it’s equally certain to be foolproof as the gift to end all gifts. Some jewelers also sell items designed especially to celebrate the mother child bond. There are motherhood bracelets, necklaces and rings that feature settings to be occupied by your children’s birthstones. These have a special advantage. Whenever you have another child you’ve got a ready-made gift idea at hand. And she’ll always treasure such mementos, to be sure. I recently purchased a mother/child pendant for my wife that she admired. It features a stylized mother/child pair in gold highlighted with a diamond. Guaranteed to melt any mother’s heart and keep you in good graces longer than any box of chocolates. And she’ll never fret about empty calories. Sounds like win/win to me. Remember that women, for whatever reason (don’t expect me to explain it, I haven’t a clue and I doubt any man alive does) absolutely love to get mushy over-priced cards. So don’t neglect this aspect of your surprise celebration of the day of love. Of course, sexy lingerie is always an option. If she’s pregnant or has recently delivered, chances are she’ll welcome any indication that you still find her sexy. Just a thought.
