If you haven't already started planning your summer vacation, no problem, sometimes the best deals are found at the last minute. But, if you are a "planner", and like to have your suitcases packed a month before you leave, it is time to get started preparing for summer fun.

I've found three great travel ideas: one for family travel, one for romantic travel, and one for the adventure seeker. First, let's go over some valuable summer travel tips. Remember, everyone and their dog, their cousin, and their grandmother, travels in the summer, so it is wise to be prepared for crowds and higher prices.

Before you hit the road....

Do some research on your destination, especially if it is out of the country. Check the crime statistics for the location you will be visiting. Locate the nearest hospitals, in case of an emergency. Make photocopies of all your tickets, passports, itineraries.

Once you check in...

Thieves love to prey on unsuspecting tourists. Try not to look the part of the typical tourist - know where you are going and where your belongings are at all times. When you are in large crowds, try to keep a hand on your purse or wallet. Ladies, make sure you wear your purse strap diagonally across your body.

When you are out and about, take only the cash you think you will need. Find out if you hotel has a safe, where you can store cash and valuables.

If you are traveling by car...

Don't forget to get it checked out prior to leaving! There is nothing like being stranded in the desert with no air conditioner, or on a mountain with no brakes. Gas is always a few cents more near cities, so fill up before you hit a metropolis.

Other money and time saving tips...

Stay at a hotel that offers a free breakfast. Visit state welcome centers, they often offer free snacks and coupons. If you have a AAA card use it! If you can do express check out form your hotel room avoid the hassle of the front desk and do it.

Most importantly.....DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN

Family Oriented

Let the kids do Disney World and then cruise to the Bahamas. Leisure Link is offering a cruise package for $159. The package includes two nights' accommodations at a hotel near Disney World and then four nights aboard a Carnival Fantasy Cruise ship. The price also includes all your meals and snacks aboard the ship and all entertainment on board. For more information about this package, click here.
