Ritz-Carlton Jamaica! But what about the political climate?

Is it the best time to visit Jamaica? There are always plenty of great deals to Jamaica, yet recently there has been a rise in political violence in the country. First, let’s look at a well priced trip I found to Montego Bay, then we’ll discuss the political climate and how it might impact you as a tourist.

A Time To Travel is offering a 3-night trip to Jamaica this fall. Prices start at $419 per person, leaving from Miami or Fort Lauderdale and prices steadily increase and top off at $629 as your choice of departure cities moves west. Other available departure cities include: Atlanta, Boston, New York, Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles.

Beyond the price of this package, what stood out to me was the name of the hotel you’ll be staying at. The Ritz-Carlton Jamaica! It sounds like a palatial estate in the midst of tropical luxury. I decided to investigate. Beyond their website, I wanted to find out what kind of ratings the place was garnering on the web.

First, I visited Ritz-Carlton’s website. Take a look for yourself at http://www.ritzcarlton.com/html_prop/res... The setting looks gorgeous. The hotel borders the Caribbean Sea, and is surrounded by the mountains of Montego Bay. The hotel boasts a golf course and a full service spa. But, remember this isn’t an all-inclusive. If you want a massage or a round of golf you’ll pay for it. Visit the Ritz-Carlton website at http://www.ritzcarlton.com/html_prop/res...

What about the room though? The only picture I could find of the hotel’s rooms was at http://www.rcrose.com/accom.html. Is that the real ocean in the picture? The rooms ring true of typical, vibrant Jamaican color. You’ll definitely want to be in a festive mood, but you may have a headache. You will have your own private, covered balcony though.

Get the real scoop on the hotel by reading some reviews on the property. There is no better way to see if the staff was friendly, or the food was horrible. I read some reviews on Travelocity.com. The reviews are overwhelmingly supportive and complement the staff, accommodations, and beach the most. Read more at http://dest.travelocity.com/Vacations/Re...

If you are just interested in a golf vacation, you may never need to leave the hotel, but if golf isn’t your game you’ll want to get out and investigate Montego Bay. In town, Margueritaville, is known as “the place to party.” Take a plunge down the huge water slide and then grab a Marguerita—there are only 52 flavors to choose from. Visit the website at http://www.margueritaville.com/mobay.htm. You shouldn’t go to Jamaica without paying some homage to Bob Marley. To find out how to have a Bob Marley Experience go to http://www.bobmarleyexperience.com. To get out and see the countryside of Jamaica, take a tour. The Hilton High Day Tour takes you through pineapple, coffee, and banana plantations and by several small villages. A lunch of roasted pig and rum punch awaits you at the end of the tour. The price is $55 per person. Their website is http://www.montego-bay-jamaica.com/hilto...
