Where To Spend The Holidays - Part OneThey may not be yours, but reindeer are some of our favorite animals this time of year too. Where can you find them? Check out the Los Angeles Zoo. Until Jan. 1st, until 4pm daily, you can join in the zoo's annual hosting of these antlered creatures. On weekends during December, bring the kids and they can make their own pair of antlers to wear. Again, if you bring your camera, these could also be great holiday card photos! In addition to the reindeer, Santa will also be on-hand in the park for photographs. Visit the zoo's website for further details: www.lazoo.org. Perhaps after a day at the zoo, or even for a special evening plan, pack up the car with friends and hot chocolate, and take a drive on Crystal Springs Dr., at LA Griffith Park (where the 5 and 134 freeways come together). If you can bear the temperature, roll down your car windows and catch the sound of carolers that seem to stroll the street each year. A spectacular display of lights will be before you, including a special patriotic entry this year to honor the firefighters and policemen of New York City. This event is free, but again, if you have the giving spirit, there will be a collection at the entrance for new toys. You can call for more information about the exact planned distribution of the toys (323-662-5874). And, what would December be without a rendition of "The Nutcracker?" There have been very few years where I have not caught a performance - it's just tradition. You can attend the esteemed American Ballet Theatre's presentation at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, Dec. 14-23rd (tickets range from $30 - $80, ticketmaster: 213-365-3500). The West Valley Ballet Company is also offering their interpretation at California State University, Northridge's campus Dec. 14-16. These tickets go for $15-$25, with a special $10 rate for children under 10 and CSUN students and seniors. (call 818-785-8885 for more details). I hope this gives you an idea or two on some special ways to spend the holidays. Please check back in a week or so for Part Two, as even more events with their locations and times will be examined. Also remember to call each event first, as dates and times do have a way of changing. For whatever you will be celebrating this month, even if it's nothing at all - enjoy the beauty of
