Happy Spooky Day

There are so many ways to celebrate Halloween- costume parties, haunted houses, cemetaries. I can't really share specific parties with you, because I think the hosts might resent a few extra hundred people showing up at their doorsteps. However, there are lots of public places just dying to see you.

Need some safe places to take the little ones, why don't we start with the L.A. Zoo. Saturday, October 27th there will be trick or treating and lots more fun for the kids. With $8.25 for adults and $3.35 for children admission to the zoo, this special holiday event is free. (Call 323-644-6400 for more information).

Santa Monica Place mall is another alternative to taking your little ghosts and goblins around to unsafe neighborhoods. On Wednesday, October 31st, from 4-7pm will host a store-to-store setting to gather candy. (310-394-5451 for more info.)

Now after you put the youngsters to sleep, let's get down to some serious Hauntings.. Once again, the Shipwreck Terror Fest will take place at the Queen Mary, in Long Beach. In addition to a full-scale dance party, there will be seven mazes to test your skills - you might want to attempt these early on in the evening before you partake of beverages! For just $25, you can join in this 7th annual horror festival - order tickets at (310) 515-3322.

Still not scared off, how about Knott's Berry Farm's Annual Halloween Haunt. Southern California adults can enter for a mere $40, and get scared out of their mind. Come amuse yourselves amidst mazes, scary shows, and over 1000 live characters waiting to jump out at you and scare the beejeesus out of you! If you can make your way down to Buena Park, this is a highly praised event that has withstood 29 years!

If the above suggestions are still too far to drive for you, here's a bit of scariness that's a little closer to home. It's called Spooky House - and it's up in the Valley. If you can make your way to Woodland Hills, this "haunted house" has been growing every year. With 25 rooms of horror and fearful displays, some people think this is a wonderful Halloween tradition. Personally, it's not quite strong enough for my tastes - but perhaps I'm a bit jaded after all these years.

However you decide to spend this year's Hallow's Eve, make sure you have fun!! And forget about being an adult for a little while. Use this holiday as an excuse to relieve some of the pressures surrounding us. I'm being totally unoriginal this year, and donning my fall back costume of French Maid. Hopefully you'll be a bit more creative with your choice!
