Ephesus--the ancient city of Ephesus lies near the modern town of Selcuk in Turkey. Here once stood the Temple of Artemis, Goddess of Hunting and Nature, and considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Said to be the most beautiful structure on Earth, the temple was built in 550 BC, destroyed and rebuilt and then destroyed for the last time in 262 AD. It was completely torn down about two hundred years later, and Ephesus was deserted. The foundation has been excavated, and a few columns have been erected.
