Italy Just in time for the new millennium, Nero's fabled palace is reopening after being closed for 18 years. Because of the risk of its collapsing on tourists, the palace, where the infamous Roman emperor Nero lived until his suicide in 68 AD, has been off limits and undergoing a $3 million restoration. Truly one of the great remnants of Roman times, the building sprawls across nearly 200 acres and occupies s of four of Rome's seven ancient hills. The opening of Nero's palace is just one of the treasures that have been restored and reopened in Italy, as part of their millennium celebration. Other's include the restoration of the Da Vinci's Last Supper. Paris The Eiffel Tower is the place to be on New Year's Eve. As the giant Millennium clock ticks off the last seconds of the century, an enormous millennium egg will crack out. Don't expect a chick--this egg is given birth to video screens which will be broadcasting other millenium celebrations from around the world. Stay tuned for the laser and light show, and don't miss the lights which will shine from the Seine. Visit the official Paris 2000 for other festivities around town.
