Paper Cutting

Monkiri (mon-kee-ree) is the Japanese art of paper cutting; also, Kirigami.

The Panama Kuna Indian women's blouse has inspired Mola paper cutting which is layered and colorful.

Mexican colorful cut and layer Papel Picado.

So, now that you've gotten a little inspiration, here's what you're to do....
  • Fix yourself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
  • Grab a glass of milk.
  • Find some decorative paper and a pair of comfortable scissors.
  • Then, make your way to a quiet area and start producing art.

BTW, it's okay to use a pencil and ruler as well. And it's okay to look at some of the websites I've linked here for examples and ideas (inspiration is a good thing).

But it's not okay to leave that quiet little area until you've recaptured some of the wonder you experienced as a child when you were given that first pair of scissors.

What do you do with the project that you create? Display it on the fridge, of course...just like the "good ole' days". Later, when you get really good at it, frame your art and display it or give it as gifts. You're only limited by your imagination as to the designs you choose. Enjoy!
