Alternative Venues- a Game Pad WorldYet, there are limits, bright lines that limit the game experience. While your animated character may do back flips and fire two guns as well as the Terminator, he may not have the ability to open certain doors or wander outside of the space ship. The writer, budget or animator may limit the character to perform those actions. In the case of Riddick who starred in two feature films " Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick," the gamer is exposed to a character who is blind. The writer is subject to certain limitations based on the creative fiction, two movies and what the gamer knows about the character. There are worst things. The character may have a twenty-year-old history such as Zelda. Like a situation comedy star or soap opera diva these characters are defined but as the screenwriter you must take the protagonist on a new ride that evolves, yet maintain the character's relationship with the audience. B. Character Arch. "Casablanca and Half Life 2" have strong character arch but in console games the rise and fall of character is in small steps. You give the gamer what he wants and needs, Batman has a cool car, Superman heat vision. The main difference between a game and a feature film is that the character may have scripted choices. These short written montages will change and evolve an open-ended game such as " Grand Theft Auto: Vice City or " True Crime." Yet the writing of a movie script is similar to console games. The script retains a three-act structure. In act one the protagonist takes center stage, followed by the antagonist, but Act three must return to the protagonist. The epic hero is always on center stage, he saves the world, escapes, and setups the inevitable sequel. As a screen writer you know the business cycle is similar to movies, a game may take one, three or five years to two years to a revised release date. Projects are cancelled before a final cut, some are beta tested and the best efforts are released to the public. But the audience will wait. The cinematic scenes allow for a jump in character strength that allows the screenwriter to effectively develop major and minor characters that the gamer will interact with and provides the backdrop of story and film in accord with Robert Mckee ("Story") theory of screenwriting. It may take time to develop
