All Rights Reserved Why write a heroic movie? You know the phrases copyrighted and trade marked by "Marvel" and "DC Comics," the words etched within your brain. Like the Berlin wall an unsurmountable hurdle. But that wall fell too. Not convinced scared by the unfinished, undirected Superman scripts loss within the belly of the Hollywood beast. That film too will be made. The heroic movie compels completion the words that must be written, In the mean time you will write a super hero film despite those copyrighted works of the powerful. Why? Because you want to and that's good enough. Last month I covered the divergent collision of art vs. commercialism. In that epic and heroic battle, I chose art. This months it's fun time. " Batman, Superman, the Silver Surfer" the ultimate super heroes. As a child and teenager you espoused their worlds, dark havens that even a " Power Ranger" couldn't comprehend. Writers can mold these characters from the void and place their favorite character into the adventure of their choosing. Why did " Spiderman One and Two grossed over seven hundred million ( see http://www.boxofficemojo.com Was it New York? It must have been the screen writer who created the dramatic tension from the original primary source a comic book. Those air bubbles of three to five words emerged into a film force. Remember film is always imagery. Comics form the base reality of film and reflect the graphic base of all films. The panels, the art work, tell their stories through a lens of graphic colors and facial expressions that mirrors the 24 frames per second world of the screenwriter. So sit down, fasten your cape and get ready because this will be faster then a speeding bullet. The genre Superman- If you are older then me you probably watched the original ": Superman" TV series live and not the afternoon rerun of the late sixties. The late George Reeves looked like the Superman comic books. The jutting jar, chest sticking out. He was heroic. It took several decades to achieve the gigantic leap to film. " Superman, The Movie" film starring the late Christopher Reeves modeled the comic book like George Reeves. The script written by Jerry Siegel,Joe Shuster, Mario Puzo ,David Newman, Leslie Newman and Robert Benton( per Imdb.com) was reflective of its era, despite the revisions and numerous writers the script maintained the elements of all good movies. Death, love and action. Real life, the essence of drama was within the original "Superman the Movie." The film blended science fiction elements with real life. Opening with a a criminal trial and politics the audience saw familiar yet strange things. A city of ice, drawn to its own death by the giver life the Sun. People were people despite the imminent destruction of the planet Krypton. Ignorance triumphed and that is always the hallmark of any good drama. But in the super heroe film the odds are turned in favor of the good guys. Go To Page: 1 2
