Put a Star in Your SkyThose that at times have senses removed, even the "sense of freedom", through a disability appreciate all their senses more intensely. Oftentimes, doing something relaxing requires working a bit harder, but the payoff is sweeter. Due to transportation and budget constraints, they can tend to make our experiences come to life and us with it. We earn them, literally. If taking time for yourself would consist of rearranging your priorities but budgeting is a problem, there are countless free joys just for the asking. Here are some free examples that are the most valuable and memorable - create your own list: Listening to trickling raindrops and imagining those on your block staying indoors, talking, drinking cocoa by the fire and not being busy. A scenic walk on a beach with your toes in the sand. Birdsong serenading the trees just before dawn. Walking in a local mall or store and smiling and saying hello, catching folks off guard and discovering new friends like treasures. Writing or typing your feelings down, then smiling when you notice how many things are going "right" in your life! Self-esteem, regardless of how others might treat you, is your grand prize. Callous people do not know any better. You can teach them with a smile. Realizing there is always someone somewhere in the world worse off than you and being thankful for what you have. We with disabilities, of course, firstly have amazing abilities ingrained within us. We have more perceptive senses that are more intensified than those who remain jaded. We hear with the almost keen perception of a canine. Our sight is almost as accurate as a cat with night vision. We can not only appreciate an innocent rosebud but we can feel the velveteen rose petal and marvel at nature's wonders. Most importantly, we have an almost sixth-sense to "smell out the doors to the hidden joys of life."
