Merry Christmas

Holidays mean the kids are out of school. Be extra careful when you drive. The kids are having fun and may not be thinking about where they are running or walking.

Recheck the toys you bought for toddlers and babies. Give them one final, careful once-over for anything that could pop off and be ingested. Despite their small size, babies are really goodat several things: crying, pooping, peeing, and sucking like crazy. What else do they have to do! Those little innocent lips can wrap themselves around unexpected objects and suck them right off whatever they're attached to.

Taking a trip through a remote area? Plan it. If you live where it is cold or if you are driving to a place where it is cold, pack some blankets and extra warm clothing in the trunk just in case your vehicle becomes stuck. It wouldn't hurt to stock some containers for melting snow for drinking, and some dried food such as crackers, cookies, breakfast bars and candy. If you don't ever use them, you can eat them when your trip is over.

If you're planning a long trip, there's no excuse today for not owning a cel phone for emergencies. Buy one for Christmas.

If you have car trouble, pull as far off the road as possible so that your car's lights don't make a sleepy or inattentive driver hit you by mistaking your stopped car for a moving one.

Prepare for a potential flat tire. Check you jack and spare tire. Carry a small thick block of wood (like a 2x8) in case you have to pull onto gravel and need a flat surface under your jack. If you do get a flat, remember to put a rock under your tires to keep the vehicle from rolling.
