The Sustainable Development Gateway "integrates the online information developed by a network of some of the world's leading sustainable development institutes. These organisations have formed the Spinning the Web Network in order to improve their online products and services to help you quickly learn about the policies and practices necessary for sustainable development."
The site serves up an "SD Primer" to "guide you through new thinking and solutions being developed by the Spinning the Web Network members. Covering over 150 topics, the Primer includes short background articles, links to more than 1600 critical Network member documents, and suggestions for further exploration on the Internet. The subjects you can browse through include the following: Places: Countries and Regions, Ecosystems, Human Settlements.
A News Service page provides a collection of links to daily newsmedia such as Earth Times, Earth Vision, Environmental News Network (ENN), Environment News Service (ENS), Inter Press Service (IPS) (english, french, or spanish - subscription based), OneWorld News Service, lanet Ark: Reuters World Environment News, Reports: Science from the Developing World (english or french), Sustainable Business Network Journal , Tomorrow: Business and Environment News, and United Nations Foundation UN Wire. Monthly, bimonthly and quarterly publications also are listed. The Global Water Forum, sponsored by the Global Water Partnership, was "created by and for those with an active interest in responsible management of Earth's most valuable finite resource -- water. This site offers an independent venue for international agencies, individuals, local communities, the private sector, academia, governments, and nongovernmental organizations wishing to exchange information and explore topical issues. The water forum provides links to various databases, libraries and other websites, it offers discussion groups to further international dialogue on timely issues and help forge partnerships between entities with varying expertise in water resources management, and it sets forth networking facilities so that consistent and collaborative management of water may be advanced at global, regional and local levels." A nice long list of international organizations can occupy your surfing time if you are rained or snowed in some Sunday afternoon. Even if you don't surf, the list gives you an eye opener of just how many private and nonprofit organizations there are around the world with their fingers in the water. A similar link lines you up with newsletters galore, and news provides a short list of those links. Go To Page: 1 2
