Nature Postage Stamps for '99© Kenneth Friedman
Apr 9, 1999
Nature lovers will have a banner year in 1999 if they like to use nature stamps on their snail mail. Instead of reprinting descriptions and images that you can read and see for yourself, I'll give you the links to follow at the U.S. Postal Service and you can visit yourself. Take a little time and take a "nature surf."
- Aquarium Fish (June 24) - This horizontal scene consists of four stamps, each with its own fish.
- Arctic Animals (Mar 12) Includes the Arctic Hare, Arctic Fox, Snowy Owl, Polar Bear and Gray Wolf in a suitably cool color.
- Insects & Spiders (Oct 1) 20 creepy colorful bugs.
- John and William Bartram (May 18) were famous father (1699-1777) and son (1739-1823) botanists. This stamp depicts a flower: Franklinia alatamaha. Phildelphian's may have heard of Bartram's Garden, a public museum, park and garden.
- Sonoran Desert (Issued in early April) This is an attractive pane of 10 stamps that together depict a desert scene of 25 plants and animals including saguaro and cholla cacti, birds, a tortoise, snake and so on. This is a self-stick stamp.
- Tropical Flowers (May 1). This set of four stamps includes Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae), Royal Poinciana (Delonix regia), Gloriosa Lily (Gloriosa superba) and Chinese Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis)
Three other stamps feature animals but I wouldn't call them nature stamps: Lunar New year of the Hare (Jan 5)
Daffy Duck (April 16)
Christmas deer(Oct 20)
