Surviving the Console Wars, Part ISurviving the Console Wars, Part 1 Gamecube? X-Box? PS2? A down and dirty look at which system will win the console wars, and why. Well here I am again, late as usual. I’m hoping this will all change now since I have my own computer, and a good word processing program. Unfortunately I don’t have Internet access in this room, but I can always do the old diskette maneuver. It’s wonderful to have a spell checker again. I was getting a little paranoid doing it the other way, afraid I might be seen for the frail intellect that I really am. Now I can rest assured that, once again, technology has “got my back”, so to speak. So I was just thinking a little while ago about a question that has plagued me since about a month ago: Which of the upcoming video game systems should I sink my hard-earned money into? A difficult question, to be sure. I would love to say that I had more noble thoughts with which to fill my time, but unfortunately I am a rather shallow person most of the time. Besides all of that, I have to keep this article circling around a happy little planet called Entertainment Technology, and not stray too far away, lest I run the risk of drifting into uncharted space. Ever since the recent Electronics Entertainment Expo (more commonly known as E3, to those on the inside of the biz), and the heralded unveiling of the much drooled over Nintendo Gamecube, I have been faced with the looming realization that I would have to choose which system to spend my money on come November. Of course I could take the more expensive course and simply attempt to set aside enough money to purchase both systems, but then I would need to pare back on the number of games and accessories I could buy, and one simply must have his games. OK, I didn’t just come here to ramble on about my inability to decide this question. I had hoped that in writing this article I could provide arguments in favor and against each side, and possibly provide you some help in what is sure to be an agonizing process. So sit back, relax, and take a little time to get to know these two systems, and maybe you might find yourself a little more swayed one way or the other by the time we’re through. I, on the other hand, will most likely still be torn.
