Linworth PublishingDo you need a quick and easy way to evaluate new books and/or software? Or are you adept at recommending books or software to others? Either way, you will be interested in Linworth Publishing. Two excellent magazines: The Book Report and Library Talk are part of what make up Linworth Publishing. One is geared toward teachers and librarians of younger students and the other toward teachers and librarians of older students. Each contains articles that teachers and librarians would find helpful as well as book and software reviews. Definitely an excellent resource. For the past two years, I have had the opportunity to review for Linworth Publishing. Although I’m not paid to review, I do get to preview and review new books as well as keep them. From an entire set of Career Encyclopedias to children’s ghost stories, the items sent to me for the most part have been worthwhile. The reviews themselves don’t take a lot of time and I can easily email my reviews to the Reviews Editor. Just last week I was sent a letter asking if I wanted to renew my application to continue reviewing…thus I thought I’d pass along this reviewing opportunity. The Linworth Publishing website is http://linworth.com It shares reviewer guidelines, author guidelines, themes for The Book Report and Library Talk, and Conference and author presentation schedules. Shelley Glantz is the Reviews Editor. I definitely recommend reading one or both magazines first before deciding to become a reviewer. If you’re interested in reviewing, you will be sent an application asking for your name, title, address, preference regarding review materials (books, software and online services, and/or video), curricular areas of interest, and nonfiction areas of interest. They are quite flexible and easy to work with—I’ve enjoyed my personal experience with them. This year they’ve even decided to hold a REVIEWER SEMINAR—they really do show their appreciation for their reviewers. I just thought I’d pass this opportunity along…if you have any further questions you can always email me. And if you’re not interested in reviewing then I highly recommend reading the magazines for the reviews themselves!
