Gardening With Confidence

But a lot of the time you can rely on good old commonsense and a bit of experimentation. Choose the right place for your plant, incorporate plenty of organic matter at planting time, water well until established, and most plants will be happy to oblige by growing healthily. Collect a handful of seeds or a few cuttings and have a go at propagating your favourite plants. After all, what have you got to lose?

It doesn't mean you won't have any failures - most gardeners have lost count of how many plants have died on them. But normally you can work out why the plant died and learn lessons for the future. I think the secret of successful gardening lies in confidence - being brave enough to have a go, brushing aside a few failures on the way and celebrating your successes.
