Engineers and the Red Cross

On a different note, I would like to praise the Red Cross for its outstanding treatment of its staff. A very close friend of my family has worked with the Red Cross for several years. She is a medical doctor, who found more job satisfaction as a doctor and administrator for the Red Cross than as a doctor at a hospital. This talented lady was diagnosed with serious diabetes at the age of sixteen. Unfortunately, she now concedes that her lack of care with her own health contributed to the problems with her eyes, which in the past two years have resulted in blindness. Although she had problems, not knowing braille and having not experienced the years of blindness that would enhance her fingers' sense of touch, she was able to keep her job with the Red Cross until she decided herself that she could not do her work as she wanted. As her sight deteriorated, her office provided her with a larger computer monitor, and helped in many other ways to help her deal with her loss. As her friend, I would like to thank the Red Cross for caring for its own workers as it cares for needy people around the world.
