Organic Gardening -- Grasses -- Perennials

Some landscapers consider grasses the plant of the future. There are few quality books on grasses. In my opinion, this is the best one available today. I suggest you add it to your bookshelf for reference. You won't be sorry you already own the best book available on the subject.

Perennial All Stars

Jeff Cox is one of my favorite garden writers. His style is easy to follow and shows the quality of his research prior to producing a book. Some may recognize him from various gardening television shows. His book, Perennial All Stars: The 150 Best Perennials for Great-Looking, Trouble-Free Gardens was published by Rodale Press in 1998.

This book should be on your garden shelf for several important reasons:

1. It lists perennial plants sure to thrive in your garden if you can meet the plant's habitat preferences.

2. Information for each of Cox's recommendations is contained on two adjacent pages, making it easy for you read and focus on the plant you are interested in learning more about.

3. Each plant has its key information summarized in a "Spotlight" box. This box tells you the USDA hardiness zone, time of bloom size (height and width), flower color, light (sun, partial sun, shade, etc.), soil preferred, place or origin and, lastly, where you are likely to find the plant (mail order sources.

4. You are provided detailed information on growing and propagating each species. Finally, site suggestions and companion plants are listed.

I can't give this book a higher recommendation. It will be used as I redesign next year's full-sun garden! This is a book you will never regret purchasing.

Each of these books can be ordered on-line directly from Rodale Press.
