Cactus -- A Book ReviewThe largest section of this book describes a wide selection of cacti suitable for beginners. She has selected representative genera of the many available and provided information on a few species within the genera. Each species is illustrated in addition to having information on its place of origin, required care, propagation suggestions, and representative species. Special "Tips" are provided in the margin giving a tidbit of additional detail such as "I only water these plants with rainwater" [page 40] which can greatly help the grower. Generally, I consider this book to be an outstanding introduction to cacti. It may lead to many more people becoming hooked on cacti for a hobby. The only complaint I have is that Manke tends to use some words which are not generally understood by beginners and do not appear in the glossary. The photographs used throughout this book are beautiful and helpful for tentative identification of the selected species.
