Mulch and Birdhouses in the Garden

Rene and Christyna M. Laubach authored The Backyard Birdhouse Book. As the title indicates, this book is about building birdhouses. It begins by presenting information on the nesting cycle of birds. The bulk of the book provides a description, habitat needs, possible problems, and the life cycle of common backyard birds. There is a colored picture of the adult bird and a special sidebar on nesting needs for each bird discussed. For some species, pictures of the nest and/or eggs are also provided. Excellent nest box plans are provided for each species. The last portion of the book discusses creating natural habitats for birds.

This book should be on every gardener's book shelf because it shows you how to attract birds and provide for their needs in addition to having a colorful garden for humans to enjoy. I've passed the book on to my parents because my father builds nest boxes for the backyard. This book will be helpful because it gives specific size requirements for the different bird species.

Until May 26, good gardening and garden reading to you!
