Dear Readers:
I am now the Dean of the Gardening School for Suite101 University. May I invite you to visit and sign up for one or more classes? I'd also like to invite you to submit a proposal for a class you either 1) would like to have available, or 2) would like to teach. Please visit http://www.suite101.com/suiteu/devapp/me... for information on becoming a course developer. You may want to enroll in the Course Developer's Course (http://www.suite101.com/suiteu/devapp/gu... to see what you would need to do to become one of our course developers. My personal goal as Dean of the Gardening School is to make this the first place on the internet where home gardeners look to find short classes that address various gardening topics. Some of the classes on my current wish list include: Butterfly Gardening - teach your students how to establish a butterfly garden for attracting these feathered flowers to their yard. Bird Gardening - teach how to establish a yard that will attract a wide variety of birds. Teach students which plants to use in the various regions of North America (or another English Speaking Country). Pollinator Gardening - Do you know that our native pollinators fertilize a large portion of our food crops? Without them, we'd have less variety to eat and pay higher prices for what we do have. If you have expertise in pollinators, please consider writing a course to teach other gardeners how to attract these essential insects. Hydroponic Gardening - Gardening in water is a popular way of growing food crops in the Netherlands and other countries. Share your knowledge on how to begin hydroponic gardening. You may want to develop a series of classes on this topic that would take a newcomer from the beginning stages to the advanced stages of hydroponic gardening. Trees and Shrubs - Share your knowledge of selecting appropriate trees or shrubs for different shade/soil/moisture conditions in the yard. Gardening for the Disabled or Elderly - A class providing an introduction to Horticulture Therapy is actively being sought. Future classes suggesting plant activities to be used in a horticulture therapy program will also be welcome. Water Gardening - Teach your readers how to build their first artificial pond or stream. Classes focusing on specific plant groups such as Pelargoniums, Begonias, Gesneriads, cactus and succulents, etc. are also desired. I have not listed every possible class in this month's column. Do you have an idea? Please suggest it to me via my email address [suite101-dlp@ameritech.net]. If it sounds like an appropriate topic, I'll ask you to further develop your idea by creating a listing of possible class sessions. Go To Page: 1
