FYI: *Chest pain may not be severe. *All of the symptoms of heart attack may not be present. *Every symptom can occur in either men or women, at any age. *The victim may not look "bad". Many people have suffered through heart attacks looking as they normally do. IF YOU SUSPECT A HEART ATTACK: *Recognize the signs and symptoms of heart attack. *Have the victim stop activity and lay down. This decreases the workload on the already overburdened heart. *Loosen any restrictive clothing and keep the victim as comfortable as possible. *If the victim is conscious, give him or her an aspirin (unless victim cannot take aspirin). *If the victim is conscious, call 911 or transport the victim to the nearest Emergency Room. *If the victim is unconscious, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY. Check pulse and breathing. Provide CPR, if necessary. NEXT WEEK: TREATMENT FOR HEART ATTACK.
