So you want to be an Elvis Tribute Artist...as close approximation to Elvis Presley as humanly possible. Whether or not he has singing talent is of course important, but with so many great singers, it's hard to sometimes narrow the field down to the "best". As far as I can see, 50% will sound okay, 40% sound great, 5% sound "awesome", and 5% are either tone deaf or can't carry a note. If he can't sing a lick, then I'm not going to be punished further down the road, I just won't go and see him again-ever. He is the master of his own destruction at that point. I will not be a part of it- but for god's sake - at least try to look good! Elvis was the finest human form of a man that anyone could ever possibly imagine. I think God put him on this earth, not only to bring music to the world, and weld hands of friendship together, but I think god's last magical thought must have been, "here's a little special treat for thy women's eyes!" No, I don't expect perfection when I'm looking at an ETA on stage although I am looking for a sincere form of appreciation to the man who brought this person down this particular career path. I expect him, not only to be presentable, but to also know his subject inside and out. I also expect the person to sing from the heart, be humble, and to take great pride in his looks and overall appearance. If you're going to head to the stage in front of an audience, you better make sure you give that first impression your best. It's those first few seconds that make the world of difference. You can always touch up the audience later... but if your going to make friends with some of us hardened and seasoned Elvis fans- you better be prepared to be a bug under a magnifying glass! To be perfectly honest, we simply don't want anyone that harms the memory of a simple country boy-turned King. We have generations following close on our heels, and these guys really are setting an example. If you just can't afford certain clothes or dedicate time polishing up this career, then wait it out. Wait until everything comes together for you. Then you will know if it's the right thing or not. Your voice is a talent you were born with, you can enhance it and train
