An Entertainers perspective...I would like to take this opportunity to share with you (with the author's permission) what goes on behind the scenes and a real look inside the ETA head and heart. Although this entertainer had initially wished his name to be used, I felt that it would certainly not be productive at this point. It is my fault that I have allowed the writer to remain anonymous. Please be prepared to end this session now, or read on and see how it feels to be the guy on the stage.... (Note from contributor):Notice of disclaimer- My views and comments are not necessarily comprehensive - that is: I don't speak for everyone, I do not claim to know it all or have a universal perspective, and by no means do I claim to be the "best" Elvis Tribute Artist (incidentally, those who do should take a Humble Pill). In addition to input by other experienced ETA's perhaps some day it'll all add up to somehow benefit this terrific group of guys in the future. I'm fairly confident that there are a lot of ETA's out there who will quietly nod in emphatic agreement... **************************************** Along with quite a few other Elvi, I just participated in a contest. This was my 4th - and last - involvement in such an event. The administrators said their event would be "different," but it wasn't. The rules and judging criteria went by the wayside, infractions becoming the norm, and there have been numerous admissions and awareness of dishonesty by very viable sources.
In my opinion, the common denominators of such events seem to be : 1. The name and persona of "Elvis" has universal recognition and appeal, thus making anything associated with the Elvis phenomena extremely marketable; especially live entertainment as people yearn to come as close as they can to "seeing" the King of Rock and Roll. 2. Elvis Impersonators are by nature a trusting lot, eager to please and with a passion to entertain. Add these up and some might call us truly nice, trusting, hopeful - but possibly gullible - guys.
