Kathy Westmoreland and ETA's
The weekend being discussed was one that also presented another opportunity. An opportunity for Kathy to meet and get to know many of the men that have made their careers out of impersonating the man she stood on stage with. I was curious myself of her ideas and thoughts about this type of entertainer, and hadn't really heard one way or another, what she thought of them. I wasn't sure if she applauded their energies to resemble Elvis, or if she would rather have just turned the other cheek, and kept her thoughts to herself. I would soon find out how Kathy would interact with these guys, during the birthday party that she threw in honor of Elvis' 68th birthday. During the seemingly endless wait for the doors to open to begin celebrations, I was struck with the number of people that would wait any length of time to have the rare occasion to visit with the lovely Kathy Westmoreland. Once Kathy entered the room, it was if new life had breathed its way into the stagnate setting. Suddenly the pictures around the room that had been painted by Kathy came to life, as did the stage outfits that had adorned her tiny frame so long ago. The outfits had been recently been brought out of storage for this particular occasion, and one couldn't help but fall back to the past for a split second and remember the vision of her elegantly standing on stage with Elvis close beside her. Bright, witty and with enough energy to burn, Kathy made everyone feel at home, and welcomed everyone to partake in the birthday celebrations. If I had doubts prior to the birthday party of the interaction of Kathy with ETA's, they quickly vanished when I stood to the side watching her and ETA Gary Elvis Britt, harmonizing "How Great Thou Art" together- a rare opportunity indeed! One by one the guys lined up for the one chance to grab a picture and to sweep her off her feet- literally! Cradled against the backdrop of Elvis' worldwide, Kathy would beam her sweet smile for the camera, and then the lucky guy would gently put her back on the floor after a final hug and kiss. One would have thought Kathy should have had scarves to hand out during that particular day! Many people know of Kathy because of Elvis. There is no doubt about it. Although I can bet that after that
