The Missing Pony

No matter what we did, Rocksy just kept getting worse. Diets and medicines didn't seem to be helping, so we marked it down to old age. Our vet had even ask several times if we were certain she wasn't pregnant, but we assured him that wasn't possible. There were no other horses in our neighborhood.

Then one day I looked out and didn't see any sign of Rocksy. Thinking the worst, I walked to the end of the pasture, afraid of what I'd find. When I did find her I got the shock of my life. She was lying down, but she was not alone. At first I thought it was a baby deer, but soon realized our little Rocksy was nursing a new-born baby. She hadn't been sick all those months, she'd been pregnant. Being the city slickers we were, we had no idea it took 12 months for horses to deliver their young. Our vet kidded us for years after that, of course.

When we told her previous owners about the mysterious pregnancy, they explained their Welch male pony had gotten out of his pen the day before we bought Rocksy. They had always wondered where he went and what he did in the short time he was gone. Well now we all know what he did the day he got away.
