In the last few weeks the Elvis world has seen a virtual explosion of events. Here are just a few.

IMPLOSION OF MARKET SQUARE ARENA

Elvis performed his final concert on June 26, 1977 at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The $23 million arena was erected in 1974 and closed in 1999. It sadly never reopened, and the site of Elvis' farewell appearance was reduced to rubble on July 8, 2001.

Here's a birds eye view of the implosion

COUSIN OF ELVIS SHOT AND KILLED

Like something you'd expect to see in the movies, the story of Elvis' cousin's death apparently began with the abduction of a woman, which later turned into a high-speed chase. The suspect wrecked his car and ran into a shed where, he was then cornered.

Sheriff Harold Ray Presley, 52, was said to have shoved a deputy out of the way and was shot several times. He died at North Mississippi Medical Center. He undoubtedly saved the deputy from injury or even death.

A sheriff since 1993, Harold was reported as having the walls of his office proudly covered with pictures and posters of his cousin Elvis.

[Nicolas] LISA AND NICK

We've all seen Nicolas Cage play Elvis-types in his movies, but never quiet as much as he does in Wild at Heart

I'm not by any means recommending this movie, in fact if I were reviewing it I'd have to give this totally strange movie a thumbs down. But if you can make it past all that blood, language, and down right gross-out scenes, there ARE a few good moments.

One when Nick performs "Love Me" and "Love Me Tender." Two when my daughter, who was born the same year as Lisa, and named after Shelley Fabares, makes a brief (very brief) appearance in the movie.
