Elvis: The Early '50s

On September 9, 1956 came those famous three appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show. It wasn't until the third appearance that he was only filmed from the waist up. Both performances of "Don't Be Cruel" and "Ready Teddy" can be seen on the Elvis on Tour documentary which can be purchased at the MGM Commemorative Video collection.

By the end of 1956 "Heartbreak Hotel," "I Want you, I Need you I Love You," "Hound Dog," "Don't be cruel," and "Love me Tender" had all reached # 1.

Elvis Presley was the biggest thing since sliced bread. He was cool daddy-o. And it wasn't just a girl thing. The guys however, were just way-too-cool to show their emotions in the fabulous early '50s.
