Twenty-Two Years Later

"We break into our regular scheduled programming for a special announcement. Elvis Presley, known as the King of Rock and Roll, has been found dead at his home in Graceland Mansion."

It was if the whole world stood still, as we listened in disbelief, on that fateful day on August 16, l977. Like John F. Kennedy and Princess Diana, it just was just to horrible for anyone to imagine. There had to be a mistake. It couldn't be true.

On August 17, the pain grew deeper, as newspapers revealed the painful truth, " The Commercial Appeal" in Memphis hit us with this devastating headline, Death Captures Crown of Rock And Roll.

But we somehow managed to go on. Now, twenty-two years later, parades and festivals abound, as we celebrate the wonderful memories Elvis Presley left behind.

Listed are just a few events that will take place in the next few weeks.

COLLINGWOOD FESTIVAL July 23 -26. Jane and Cheryl, of The Elvis Chat Club and The Travis DeVall interview had a blast. Drop in some Monday or Saturday night, I'm sure they can be coaxed into telling you all about it.

TUPELO, MISSISSIPPI August 6-8. The Dream King himself, Trent Carlini will be opening the three-day event with his 23-member troupe Friday night, Aug. 6. I saw Trent a few weeks ago in Las Vegas and he was outstanding.

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI August 13. KY99.7, Kansas City's Home of Rock-N-Roll proudly presents the 12th Annual KY Elvis Parade. Jerry Presley, Elvis' cousin will be performing with his 15-piece band. Grand Marshall of the parade will be Grandpa Munster.

Tarry Westley will be at the parade as well as performing at "Spirits" in Blue Springs, later that night. I've had the pleasure of watching Tarry many times and he's awesome.

Following the parade there'll be an Elvis party at The City Market.

I plan on covering all the Kansas City events - Hey! Somebody has to do it.

Contact KY99s Tanna Gutherie or me for more information.

MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE August 8-16 MEMPHIS '99. Check their Web site for the complete schedule of events. It sounds like a wonderful experience this year as usual.

If you're planning a trip to any of the festivals and would like to meet others from the Elvis column viewing audience, let me know and I'll add you to the list.

This would be a perfect time to visit Elvis Presley Theme Page and pick out a new Elvis theme or wallpaper, like the one at the top of the page.
