Darren: I entered an Elvis contest a year before I joined the show and I won second
place. My mom did my hair for me. I didn't know how to move at all, but it didn't
matter because I was the guitar player in my group, and I had to stand still and
play.
Question: Have you ever been to an Elvis concert ? Darren: No, I wasn't fortunate enough. I heard he was planning to come to Canada in 1978 but he didn't make it. Question: What pieces of work did you study the most to get the moves and sounds so perfect ? Darren: Well, I'm not perfect by a long shot. I watched his first four movies and his early television appearances and that's all the footage there is. He was toned down for TV and the movies, but he was Elvis the Pelvis. He did something to earn that nickname. I used what I had and envisioned what he was like on stage, and put it all together. My voice improved with age and experience. Our exclusive interview with Darren will be continued on may 21. Join us then as he answers more questions and describes some personal and moving experiences.
