Elvis Movies, In The BeginningThe Elvis questions asked of me most, usually pertain to his movies. What order, what year, who starred with him, and what are the best ones ? As per your request here's a short synopsis in chronological order, and my personal preference rating system. Here are the first ten. He made 31 in all, plus two documentaries. 1. Elvis made his first movie, "Love Me Tender," in 1956. It was a western drama starring Richard Egan, Debra Paget, and James Drury. The original title was, "The Reno Brothers," but was soon changed to capitalize on the movies title song. *** 2. "Loving You," was filmed in 1957. This musical drama about a truck driver turned singer starred Dolores Hart, Wendell Corey, and Lizabeth Scott. It was loosely based on Elvis's real-life career. One of my favorite scenes is Elvis singing his hit song, "Teddy Bear," in those silky tight red pants. Love the movie, love the songs. ***** 3. "Jailhouse Rock," also stars Judy Tyler, and Mickey Shaughnessy. The movie begins when Elvis's character accidentally kills a man in a barroom brawl. This 1957 movie shows us both the wonderful singing, and acting ability of the king. One of his best movies. Fantastic story line matched with extraordinary songs. ***** 4. "King Creole," a big 1958 hit has a star studded cast, including Walter Mathau as a gangster night-club owner. It's a musical drama set in New Orleans. And a fantastic movie it is. Black and white, but superb. In my opinion it was one of his best movies. Outstanding songs and story line throughout the movie. ***** 5. "GI Blues," was released in 1960. Elvis plays a soldier who just happens to have a fantastic singing voice. To raise money for their night-club, his army buddies, place him in a bet to spend the night with a sultry night-club dancer played by Juliet Prowse. His first musical comedy. Great movie, great songs. ***** 6. "Flaming Star," also made in 1960. This movie stars Steve Forrest, Babara Eden, and Dolores Del Rio, to name a few. Elvis plays the son of a white father and a Kiowa mother and is about Western racial intolerance toward Native Americans in the Old West. *** 7. "Wild in the Country," made in 1961, starred cute and perky, Hope Lange and Tuesday Weld. Elvis is a Southern boy from a rural, poverty-stricken background and is newly- released from juvenile hall. *** 8. "Blue Hawaii" another 1961 biggie. It stars Joan Blackman, and Angela Lansbury. A musical comedy originally titled, "Beach Boy." In this one he plays the son of a wealthy
