Graceland Mansion Part Two

Proceeding down the mirrored staircase we find ourselves in what is known as the TV Room, a room decorated in true seventies styling, complete with a sectional sofa, chrome accessories, a soda fountain and mirrored ceiling. The wall decoration consists of the famous lighting bolt, part of Elvis's logo that symbolizes, "taking care of business in a flash."

On the wall directly in front of the room are three built-in TVs. They were designed so Elvis could enjoy watching several professional and college football games at the same time.

Located above the TVs is a movie projection screen for showing movies. Also in this room is a home jukebox system, wired for sound to be enjoyed through the entire house. Elvis enjoyed pop, rock, country and gospel, as well as rhythm & blues. Upon leaving the TV room you enter the very unusual and interesting, Pool Room. The pool room is an eclectic mixture, with walls and ceiling covered with close to 400 yards of cotton fabric. In one corner sits three red leather Louis XV chairs. Nostalgic art prints enhance the walls, of this very unique room. Elvis loved playing rotation and 8-ball with his entourage in this room. Immediately following the pool room, we step into the Jungle Room and all its spendor. A custom-made stone waterfall graces this somewhat audacious, but captivating room. It is boldly decorated with fake-fur upholstered furniture with carved wood frames and coordinating tables. A somewhat wild fad of the seventies era, it reminded Elvis of Hawaii, one of his favorite spots. The ceiling is covered with green shag carpet.

Acoustics were so good in this room that Elvis chose it for some of his latest work. His complete album, "From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee," was recorded here, as were six songs for his very last album, "Moody Blue."

Supurb photos taken by Philip Greenspun as part of his Footsteps collection can be viewed at Graceland.

See you in the Trophy Room on December 4th. This is where his numerous awards along with many of his famous outfits are on display.

Incidentally I picked up a copy of Elvis International Magazine while I was in Graceland Plaza across the street from Graceland. This is a super magazine with Elvis stories and pictures galore. You can subscribe to this Elvisly fantastic magazine at Elvis International Magazine.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of your friends at Suite 101
