S.O.S -- Save Our Shell

Too many great entertainers besides Elvis have performed there and it's a major part of musical history - whatever your tastes in music are, from blues, to big band, to country to rock-n-roll! For this major project, we feel we need funds of at least $150,000.

We do NOT want to piece meal this money for smaller things such as utility bills, etc. We would prefer this money go for the major fix ups the Shell desperately needs. That is why we want to pool those funds from the fan clubs into one account, let it build up until it gets large enough that we can actually make a noticeable difference. At that point, we will be working with EPE and the City to organize the whole project from start to finish.

The annual concert has brought in anywhere from 150-300 people each time but that is not enough to create a large sum of money.

A few of the needed things to be done are:

1. bring the stage area and building up to code for the City. This means redoing the electrical wiring, improve the bathroom facilities, general construction improvements to keep the building safe for public use

2. painting, not only the building but having the faces of the many great stars who have performed there painted on the rainbow that fills the arch at the present time. Obviously, Elvis' face would be the largest as he is the greatest name to have appeared there. (this is just an idea to help tourism - fans wanting their picture taken on the stage where all these famous people on the arch behind had performed.

3. improve the office equipment, replace the furniture that is there and in poor shape

4. improve the seating that is there for the audience. Part of the seating is what was there back in the 50's and we want to preserve that if at all possible but it can be improved upon.

5. Sound and lighting equipment. The Shell works with donated equipment right now. Usually very poor or equipment that needs major repair all of the time. We are working at trying to get a few major companies who manufacture lighting and sound equipment to donate some to the Shell in exchange for a plaque with their names on it being placed at the Shell facility for the public to see.

6. Perhaps even some items on display from many
