"Way Down," with MIDI Files

© June Moore

In 1976 Elvis recorded, "Way down," where the music plays. Its a safe bet he wasn't referring to Musical Instrument Digital Interface files.

Over the next few weeks we'll not only be talking about MIDIs, but also downloading a few of Elvis's awesome tunes.

We'll start our musical download tour with a few instrumental variations.

Before you start, if you need a MIDI player, make a short detour. Crescendo Update will show you how to download one. You'll be given the choice of the regular Crescendo, free, or the Crescendo Plus, for a small price. The Plus version includes streaming, where the files start playing as their downloading. Both players have excellent quality.

Now we're ready for some good old-fashioned Elvis music. First stop is Elvis Presley Midi Files. Here you can download tons of cool instrumental MIDIs, free, and that's just "Too Much."

Next, is Midi Haven. This site has thousands of MIDI files, many of them Elvis. This variation of Blue Suede Shoes is guaranteed to get your toes a-tappin', with or without Elvis.

Next visit we'll download some short pieces of actual Elvis recordings.

Don't forget the ELVIS SONG CONTEST. Just write a short note revealing your all-time favorite Elvis song and why you like it so much. Send it to June.

The best reasons will be published in future Elvis columns. First place winner will receive the 384 page hard cover book Elvis Presley: A Life in Music. Contest ends September 14th.
