ETA-Christmas Traditions© Melody Sanders The rest of the stories comes from previous years, but I thought you may enjoy hearing some of them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The greatest Christmas tradition I have ever been exposed to is German. On December 6th, children in Germany place shoes outside their door and the next morning run out to learn what type of situation they were in for the next 19 days. If they received candy and prizes, they were doing ok but if they receive sticks, they had 19 days to get their stuff together. We used this tradition with our first daughter when she was going through her potty training days and lo and behold, when she received her mixture of candy and sticks, she understood that it was time to learn how to go to the bathroom and broke her of any bad habits. Thank God, this was not used for me during my growing up years or Mom and Dad would have had enough wood to heat for three winters. Another tradition, first used with our girls and still holds true with our boys is the German Candy Advent Calendars. It is always a pleasure to watch them open each door each day to see what prize is waiting for them; just like on Christmas morning. Reflecting back later on in life, we both laughed at it together. Dave Robinson What is your Favorite Holiday Tradition? I would have to say, that sitting around with my children, and decorating the tree while we listen to good old-fashioned country music and all the old Christmas tunes, of course we certainly don't exclude Elvis music!
