Summer is here, so prepare now for the many kinds of activities you and your loved one can do together.
Summer often brings in the hot weather, especially if you live down south. I am from Florida, so I know how the hot, humid air can takes its toll on you. Have plenty of water when you are outside to prevent dehydration and dress accordingly. Summer Fun Ideas: Picnic Spend the afternoon having a picnic at the park or the beach. If you are at the park, choose a shady area. Under a tree would be lovely. If you are at the beach, bring an umbrella to place in the sand to block out some of those rays. Make sure to cover skin with sunblock. As we age, our skin is more sensitive. Lips get burnt too, so invest in a $2 tube of sunblock for the lips. You can also use this year round under your lipstick, Ladies. I do this all the time and it helps keep my lips chap-free. When packing a lunch for a warm day, choosing cold foods is very refreshing. Try potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, cold fried chicken, ham sandwiches, and fruit. To quench that thirst, be sure to have plenty of fluids on hand. Water and lemonade taste great at picnics. If you don't have time to prepare food, go to the grocery store deli and ask if they can prepare a small platter of cold cuts for you. Gardening Gardening can be a lot of fun. If you like to start plants/flowers from fresh, take your loved one with you to pick out the seeds that are to be planted. If you would rather buy the flowers and transplant them, your loved one can also go with you to pick them out. If your loved one does not have the strength to dig, he can pat the soil or hand you the supplies. Be creative. If you have a child, he/she can play outside while you garden. Your loved one can even play with your child. Sprinklers are for all ages, just make sure your loved one does not mind water. Swimming If your loved one loves to go in pools, here is a great activity that can be done together. Moving around in a pool is excellent exercise too. If you don't have a pool, research your community to see if their are any public pools.
