Class Discussions on Operation Infinite Justice
Health The affects of stress on the body- psychological and physical. Look at the soldiers, the victims of the attacks, and the public and list any changes these groups may have experienced with respect to their levels of stress and overall states of health. The effects of Anthrax Look at the disease in detail and help students to understand signs, prevention, and treatment. Provide examples of cases throughout history and have students create time-lines of epidemics. Science Many students are asking how on earth two 110 story towers could have fallen down. Teach them the physics behind the disaster. Computers Outline the ways in which the nation uses computers in the military and security systems. Music Have students analyze the music of singers like the Beatles, whose songs reflect past periods of war and violence. Ask the students to explain why the lyrics have suddenly taken on new meaning and importance in the world today. History Look at the history of Afghanistan and let students discover thing like how long the civil war has been going on, how long the people have suffered, and if there ever was a time when Afghanistan was a great and wealthy nation. Geography Look at the terrain of Afghanistan. What challenges does the military face when fighting against the Taliban there? What is the climate? Could the USA army fight a war there in the winter? Art There are Remembrance Day Contests across Canada where students simply have to create posters, poems, or essays about Remembrance. This year should be a particularly good year to have the class design posters for soldiers and veterans who have kept the country free. Act quickly, though, because the deadline is fast approaching. English Read stories about war. Have students create their own. Give students thought provoking questions, like: Would they be willing to give up their lives for the sake of freedom in their country? Do they agree with the war or should the attacks be dealt with differently? This list only breaks the surface. There are so many possible lessons that could involve the events. It is a great idea to tie them into the curriculum because they are of interest to students and will make the students see how what they are learning really can be applied to real-life Go To Page: 1 2
