Yoga- Stress relief for Teachers

Meditation is becoming increasingly popular in the hectic and hurried world of today. It is a way for us to take control of stress before it takes control over our lives. Through meditation we can take control over our personal emotions and thoughts and prevent stress from forming where it would have otherwise occurred. Teachers have such stressful lives right now that I am sure meditation would help a good number of them.

Try it for yourself.

Sit down in the traditional yoga position with legs crossed and soles of the feet up. Rest your hands, palms up, on your knees. Raise your head and take some deep breaths. Now block out the real world and put yourself in an ideal place, a desired location, or a surreal paradise. You can help yourself to block out the world by repeating a short phrase of your choice over and over. Also, don’t try to meditate when the children are around. The best times to practice yoga are for 5-30 minutes in the morning or at night, or even in the bathtub. You need to find a private and quiet place where there will be no interruptions. Allow your entire body to relax and rest.

Now a lot of you critics are probably scoffing right now. You believe it is all a waste of time, a silly little child like fancy or some other bazaar idea. But so many people are raving about the results of their new found meditation. They say they have found control over there lives and that their stress does not bother them as much. They say that they are more focused and refreshed after a session of yoga. Meditation allows blood pressure and heart beats per minute to go down so you don’t feel so stressed. And those of you who feel it is religious- it is not. It is simply a way to get to know yourself and how to control your thoughts.

The majority of yoga participants are women and many go to professionals for group sessions. This may be the way to go if you have critical family members, a busy home or if you feel uncomfortable or even crazy sitting all alone and chanting to yourself. Professionals tell us that you learn quicker with their trained expertise to guide you. However, others prefer the privacy of their own homes and this saves travel time and money. Professionals admit that you can learn it yourself if you have some determination. You can even buy tapes or take classes online.
