Welcome to "The Effective Teacher"

Today education may have improved in some ways, but in others it has deteriorated. Class sizes are rising, and funding is being cut, school bus companies are charging too much and many excursions and special programs are being canceled. Teachers are being forced to work more and are being given less prep time. All of this is creating a stressful and unhappy environment for teachers who entered the profession eager and ready to work hard.

I am acquainted with teachers who have gone on work related stress more than once. I know music teachers who have developed hearing impairments, art teachers with strange illnesses and other teachers who just can't cope with today's students and have cried in despair in the middle of class. It is sad and disturbing for me as a teacher to know such events occur. I want to help these teachers and to make teaching as good as it can be. So many people are unhappy with their careers and so many are just wasting their lives as slaves to money.

Teaching should be a joy for everyone in the profession. If a teacher can control their students and teach them in an effective, enjoyable fashion, that teacher is usually happy. Teachers help the children of the future attain their dreams. One mistake that often makes teachers depressed is that they expect all of their students to dream big and to succeed. If it is remembered that every student sees success differently, and that not every student is passionate about the same subject as you, you will have a far more satisfying career.

Teaching exposes a person to a well rounded life. There are always enjoyable summer holidays, which are much needed after ten months of hard work. There are opportunities for educational tours with students and teacher exchanges. There are conferences, promotions, and the satisfaction of seeing a past student grow into a successful adult. Yes, at times every teacher questions his or her choice of professions, but in the long run it is well worthwhile. Read the future articles for help and encouragement in one of the greatest jobs a person can have.
