Holiday Hints

It's that time of year again, when everyone is scrambling around to find the perfect gift. While you are hunting for goodies for the children, don't forget that software makes a nice present or stocking stuffer.

There are many new titles out this fall, and I am working hard on bringing you reviews for several. I've already told you about two new Tivola titles; "Where's the Blanket, Charlie Brown'" and "Little Raven and Friends." My sons have just finished testing "Max and the Magician," the perfect thing for youngsters 3-7 who may want to try their hands at riding brooms and breaking spells cast by evil witches. Mervin, the great magician, has been zapped into a toilet brush by the evil Hagabelle. Children must search and play games in order to discover the formula to turn Mervin back into himself again. My full review of this program will be posted in the coming weeks. In the meantime to learn more about Tivola please visit their website at http://www.tivola.com/.

The Learning Company, Edmark, and Broderbund, publishers you may be very familiar with are now part of Riverdeep. Visit their website at http://www.riverdeep.net/ If you have preschoolers at home, you may be interested in the Jay Jay the Jet Plane titles. We have Jay Jay Earns His Wings which reinforces basic math facts. Both my 3 and 6 year old sons enjoy this program. Our review will be out soon, in the meantime read what SuperKids has to say about it at http://www.superkids.com/aweb/pages/revi... The other title in this series is Jay Jay the Jet Plane: Sky Heroes to the Rescue.

Another Riverdeep (Learning Company) title which is a huge hit at our house is Star Flyers Royal Jewel Rescue. The kids play this one so much, I haven't had much time to check it out myself. It is mostly arcade action, but seems to be a nice compromise between kids who want that video game action and parents who want something a bit more educational. A review of this title can be found at http://school.discovery.com/parents/revi... Reviews of the other title in the series, Star Flyers Alien Space Chase, can be found at SuperKids http://www.superkids.com/aweb/pages/revi... and at the Review Corner http://school.discovery.com/parents/revi... I will be bringing you reviews of both of these programs in the coming months.

Here is a list of other new releases along with links to reviews (If one could be found)

Disney Learning Adventure: Search for the Secret Keys See a review at http://school.discovery.com/parents/revi...
