May MiscellanyHello readers and welcome to the new subscribers. Seeing that subscription count go up is what keeps me doing this. This month's article is a hodge podge of things, hence the title. If you haven't checked out my links lately, please do. I've done a little rearranging and have made a few additions. Those of you with daughters might like the link to Games4Girls which you will find under the Reviews category on my link list. I've been surfing the web in preparation of this month's column. Here are a few bargains I found. Smarter Kids http://www.smarterkids.com has several quality software programs marked down, and they are also running a shipping special. I'm not sure how long the $1.99 shipping lasts, so don't dilly dally on this one. Mickey's Phonic Quest, Cluefinders, the Clifford Series, Zoombinis, and the I Spy series are some titles I would check out. Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com also has some remarkable markdowns, although Windows users will find more selection there. The new Zoombinis and Clifford titles are at especially good prices. But comparison shop, due to the higher shipping and handling costs, these titles might be cheaper elsewhere. For those of you reading this article hot off the press, Broderbund http://learningco.com is running a free shipping special through May 23. Don't forget to look at the bargain section. Arcamax http://arcamax.com is clearing out many software titles. Get them while you can for $3.98. I highly recommend Bugs In A Box if you have kids ages 3-6 in the house. With dozens of CD-Roms in our house, this one gets a lot of playtime. It has a great story, zippy music, and games to appeal to several levels of learners. For the Star Wars fan, Jar Jar's Journey is also marked down. We recently purchased it, and my three and six year old boys are having a blast with it. It's not the best program I've seen, but it's fun for the kids. It would make a nice treat at this clear out price. Jar Jar's Journey includes an Adventure Book and six games. Click on boxed words to hear synonyms. Click on the underlined words to hear a zany little song defining the word. (Okay, the lyrics will be a little corny for moms and dads, but the kids will get a kick out of it.) And if that's not enough clicking for you, there are plenty of other giggle inducing clickables hidden on each storybook page.
