What's New in 2002Hello readers! In December I was busy updating links and revising articles. All dead links should be gone. If you find any, please let me know. I try to check links every four to six weeks, but I may miss something. Also, due to a 100% pay cut in "salary" here at Suite 101, my software buying budget is a bit deflated. However, I will continue to search the web and bring you links to the reviews of the best new software being produced. And by the way, if you are a software publisher, enjoy my articles, and would like to have your products featured here, I am very open to free samples! Several new titles have caught my eye lately, many of them based on television characters. One of those programs, Caillou's Birthday Party, has received an Award of Excellence from The Review Corner. Caillou, a lively four year old boy, is the star of an animated PBS series. According to the Review Corner, this CD-Rom "... doesn't do much that is new or groundbreaking, it seems to do everything right." Caillou's Birthday Party is designed for children ages 3 to 6 and retails for around $20. Read the full review at http://school.discovery.com/parents/revi... Clifford fans ages 4 to 6 will be pleased to know there is a new Clifford CD-Rom. Clifford Learning Activities. This title has also received an Award of Excellence from the Review Corner. The complete review can be found at http://school.discovery.com/parents/revi... Another software title receiving the Award in Excellence from the Review Corner is The Incredible Machine More Contraptions for ages 9 and up. Read more about it at http://school.discovery.com/parents/revi... Mango Plumo's Weather Adventure is another science program. The Review Corner Rated it with four stars and a score of 8.2 out of 10. This title is for children ages 7 to 9. Go to http://school.discovery.com/parents/revi... for the complete review. Another excellent program for elementary school age children is Mia Just In Time. This 3D animated adventure reinforces math skills. Although the suggested age range is 6 to 10, Learning Village suggests it is more appropriate for ages 8 to 12 or grades 3 through 7. Find out more at http://www.learningvillage.com/html/rMia... Please come back next month, or better yet, subscribe to the topic Educational Software for Kids. Since I am switching to a monthly schedule, I am going to include a variety of information in each article to appeal to a wide range of readers. Also keep an eye on my links as they are constantly being updated. Over the coming weeks I will be adding new categories. My goal is to make this topic a one stop place to find out everything you need to know about children's educational software. No need to surf the web hunting for information; I do that for you. And as you may have noticed my topic is particularly Mac friendly, something that is rare to find on the internet.
