Huggly’s Sleepover by Scholastic

Huggly, the cutest green monster you've ever seen invites your child to the Annual Monster Sleepover Party. But first the monsters need some stuff, and your child needs to help.

What do they need? Three pies, two stories, a poster, and five pillows. (Wow, if only entertaining were this easy for us all.) All the needed items can be found by exploring in and around the monsters' house.

My son, Bobby, began the game in the Pipe Room. Ack! Water spraying everywhere and all those mushrooms growing! How could he get to the pillow wedged up in the pipes.

Off to the Scrub A Dub room where monsters get muddy instead of clean. Here he found what he needed to stop that leaky pipe and played a shape matching game. When he completed the game and unlocked the chest, he found a pillow.

Where did he get the keys? He found them in Booter's library. And while he was there he helped Booter make up two stories. Booter told him the topic, then Bobby selected the things he wanted in the story. Then Booter put all these items into a story which was read aloud with the words highlighted. Bobby then had the choice to make another story, have the story read again, print the story, or return to the library.

After the library, it was back to the basement to plug the hole, hop through a mushroom maze, and grab the pillow.

Stories done, two more pillows found, time to go make pies in the Kitchen with Uncle Zooba. Now you've probably heard of mud pies, but have you ever had a mood pie? Choose from the following varieties: silly, frustrated, happy, sad, proud, or mad. With each pie made, Bobby learned about feelings as well as other concepts including patterns, counting, and critical thinking.

Uh-oh, still two more pillows to find. Baby Boomer has one in his Snugglery (the monster version of a nursery). Even though Bobby stacked the stones according to size in order to reach Boomer, that rascally monster tot would not give up the pillow until he had something else to hug.

Off to the Mud Flats where Huggly finds Raggedy Rufus, his favorite stuffed toy. Bobby had to help Huggly classify some bugs by color, rescue Rufus from the muck, then figure out how to get the pillow out of the top of the tree. Then it's back to the Snugglery to give Booter Rufus, and get the last pillow.
