Many parents find it hard to find beginner software that isn't babyish. Also, much of the software for ages 3 and up can be frustrating for children who don't have good mouse skills yet. Even if you introduce your child to a computer at an early age, some kids don't want cutesy animals and nursery rhyme like music when they get close to three. (My, kids grow up quickly these days!)

Mickey Mouse Toddler solves all of these problems. Kids of all ages (even over 35 ones) like Mickey Mouse. And each of the five activities in this program can be played by tapping the keyboard, moving the mouse (no clicking), or by directly clicking on the object. Also you don't have to go into any control panels and change these options. The games just work by whatever method the child chooses to use. Plus, if you just sit and stare at the screen, the game starts playing itself. Easy. Simple. Do it your way. Get action regardless. What could be better for a young child? Although designed for children ages 18 months-3, this game still appealed to my oldest son when he was four.

The five activities include:

ABC's - Mickey has lost his letters around his house and yard. Click, tap, or move the mouse to watch the letters pop out. Mickey calls out each letter's name as it appears.

123's - Learn to identify the numbers 1-10 as Pluto tries to catch a pesky gopher.

Colors/ Creativity - Solid, plaid, or polka dot. Your child picks a new coat of paint for Goofy's house. He or she can also choose a roof, chimney, fence, and topiary shape for the bush.

Shapes - Diamond, Heart, Square, Circle, or Triangle. Help Minnie identify these shapes on her house and around the yard.

Music - Will Donald ever get a nap? Not in all this racket. Click on they oysters to tap out a rhythm. Click on the radio, and a crafty crab will scamper out to change the channel. Then click on anchors, doors, and windows to add more musical clinks and clatters. What a lot of noisy fun!

The activities in this CD-Rom are simple but endearing. The familiar characters and typical outstanding Disney sound and graphics make it even more fun. Yet while the kids are clowning around with their favorite cartoon characters, they are learning basic educational concepts and computer skills. That Mickey is one smart mouse!
