Update

Hello. I am returning from a leave of absence due to illness and death in the family. I was astounded to see that my last article was posted on January 18th. I didn't realize so much time had passed. I do apologize to my readers.

I'm still playing catch-up, and finishing reviews I had started earlier. In the meantime, I would like to share with you some new software sites I have discovered.

Let's begin with Geodonka http://store.yahoo.com/geodonka/mathgame... Not only can you find educational software here, but you can also find educational toys. Most of the titles are older, classic software. Be sure to check system requirements, as sometimes older software is not compatible with newer operating systems. Find titles from companies such as Broderbund, Humongous, and Disney. All the educational toys are wooden and include puzzles, lacing toys, pounding boards, blocks, playsets, musical instruments and more. Shipping and handling is based on weight. Geodonka states their standard charge is $4.99. I haven't personally shopped here, but I've browsed. I'd recommend it as a one stop shopping spot if you are looking for both educational software and quality wooden toys.

Another new shopping spot I've found is Children's Software Online http://www.childrenssoftwareonline.com/m... They offer childrens software, videos and dvd's, and grown-up software. Shipping and handling is reasonable, and based on the total dollar amount of the order.

Teachers, check out http://www.remedia.com/remedia/index.html MicroMedia Publishing has Science Guides and Animal CD-Rom disks available for both Mac and PC.

Like the idea of flat rate shipping? Bits.com http://www.bits.com/i-software/learning-... charges $4.95 for your entire order. They appear to have a wide selection and seem to have some newer titles in addition to the oldies offered on other sites. I found Clifford Learning Activities, I Spy, Rescue Heroes, several Playhouse Disney titles and other goodies here. They carry quite a variety of titles, not just children's educational titles, so this could be a one stop software shopping place for the entire family.

I have quite a stack of software on my desk to review, and hope to have new reviews on line shortly. I have also been looking for new releases, but haven't found anything of note. There is finally, a Veggie Tales CD-Rom which is Mac compatible, but it is mostly an arcade game. There are also other titles out based on movies, including Piglet's Big Movie and Finding Nemo. As I find out more about these titles, I will pass on the info to you. It seems that many new releases are simply repackaging of older releases. This is a great way to build your software library at a bargain price, but always check the system requirements and browse online for reviews.
